White House Reports Cancelation of Vance Trip to Pakistan for Iran talks
The official said the decision follows President Donald Trump’s announcement on social media that Washington is waiting for Iran to present a “unified proposal” under the extended ceasefire arrangement.
"In light of President (Donald) Trump’s Truth Social post confirming the United States is awaiting a unified proposal from the Iranians, the trip to Pakistan will not be happening today," the official was quoted as saying.
The cancellation comes despite earlier expectations that a US delegation led by Vance would travel to Islamabad for further face-to-face discussions with Iranian representatives.
According to reports, the visit was already facing delays due to additional policy meetings in Washington, before being formally called off.
The planned talks were intended to follow an earlier round of negotiations held in Pakistan earlier this month, which ended without reaching an agreement.
The ceasefire, announced earlier in the month, had been set to expire on Wednesday but has since been extended as diplomatic efforts continue.
