KSA Calls in Iraq's Envoy Over Ongoing Drone Threats to Gulf States
The ministry did not elaborate on the timing or scope of the attacks, and Iraq had not yet responded to the statement. According to a news agency, Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Saud al-Sati expressed strong condemnation of "attacks originating from Iraqi territory" targeting Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states.
Al-Sati stressed the importance of Iraq's responsibility in addressing these threats, emphasizing Saudi Arabia's "categorical rejection of violations of state sovereignty" and any actions that could jeopardize the region's security and stability.
The statement did not clarify whether these attacks occurred before or after a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran, which began earlier this week. The attacks were reportedly launched by Iran-backed Iraqi factions, who targeted what they described as "US interests in the region" in support of Tehran during the US-Israeli military campaign that has killed over 3,000 people since February 28.
