Saudi Arabia Reports Shooting Down Three Cruise Missiles
According to an official ministry statement, the missiles were tracked, engaged, and neutralized before reaching the city of Al-Kharj.
The interception follows a separate strike the previous day, when the ministry confirmed that Ras Tanura — one of the kingdom's most strategically vital oil refining facilities, situated along the Arabian Gulf coast — had been targeted in an attack.
A ministry spokesperson, posting on X — the social media platform owned by American billionaire Elon Musk — stated that preliminary assessments indicated the strike on Ras Tanura was carried out by a drone and caused no damage.
The consecutive incidents signal a sharp and dangerous escalation in attacks against Saudi territory and energy infrastructure, as regional tensions continue to intensify in the wake of the US-Israeli military offensive on Iran and Tehran's subsequent closure of the Strait of Hormuz on Feb. 28.
