Pakistan’s Mall Fire Death Toll Hits Fourteen

(MENAFN) The fatalities from a catastrophic blaze that engulfed a commercial complex in Karachi, Pakistan's largest city, have climbed to 14 as recovery teams pulled additional victims from the wreckage, local outlets reported Monday.

Asad Raza, deputy inspector general of police south, confirmed to media that rescue crews continue combing through the disaster site in search of survivors and remains.

Sindh's provincial Governor Kamran Tessori visited the scene earlier, revealing to media that scores of individuals remain unaccounted for following the deadly incident. "There were around 1,200 people doing business in the building, and 70 to 80 people are still missing," he stated.

Officials from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) confirmed that firefighters have extinguished the flames, with operations now focused on cooling down the structure and clearing debris from the site.

Authorities issued warnings about the building's deteriorating condition and compromised structural integrity, compelling rescue personnel to advance with heightened vigilance to avoid further casualties.

The inferno ignited late Saturday evening at the Gul Plaza shopping center located on MA Jinnah Road. The multi-story facility contains approximately 1,200 retail establishments offering apparel, electronics, beauty products, and kitchenware—merchandise that fueled the fire's devastating expansion throughout the complex.
